What does it mean to be a Hero?

Unit Outline Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3

Stage 4

Jack Egan

Hi there, this is me, obviously.

My name is Jack Egan and I am a third year student at Flinders University.

I am studying a double degree, a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Secondary Education, and am majoring in English and Digital Media Studies. Throughout my studies, I have found that both majors go extremely well together when considering my future in teaching. I believe the creative and analytical aspects of English can be better realised through the use of modern and conceptual technology, and this Curriculum plan will demonstrate that throughout.

This integrated learning plan is designed for use by year 9 English Students.

The integrated learning plan focuses around the 'big question' 'what does it mean to be a Hero?'. This question is broad enough to cover a long unit of work and allow for various different assessment pieces. Students are able to broaden their understanding of various definitions of the term 'hero' from a variety of sources.

The rationale of designing this unit of work is to increase the participating students level of self-directed learning through inquiry based teaching environments. Students will challenge their own value and belief systems while researching different culture's ideas of what constitutes a hero, which will increase their critical thinking skills.
