Hi, my name is Michael and I am finishing my last assignment (yes, this one) to complete my Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/Primary) at Flinders University. I previously completed a Bachelor of Arts at Flinders University majoring in both Geography and Biology.
Does my opinion matter?Welcome to my Integrated Learning Plan which is aiming to educate year 6/7 students about the complexities of development within the local community. I am aiming to teach the students about the importance of the environment along with a balanced approached to maintaining life within local government areas (councils). This unit aims to give students the abilities to develop persuasive letter writing skills and to enhance their knowledge about the role of local councils and their interaction with both the residential and business sectors. Rationale Many students often let the day slide by without offering their opinion. With this unit of work, my aim is for every student to gain an opportunity to give their opinion on a fictitious matter, but set in an authentic and realistic way. On a daily basis our local councils are requested to approve development which may or may not impact on the residents living nearby to the proposed development. With this in mind I have developed an authentic inquiry based learning task based around the Kath Murdoch inquiry model which will enable the students to develop skills relevant to real life situations. Students will be provided with every opportunity to know that their opinion does matter. There are 4 parts to this unit plan and these are stored as seperate public Google docs linked to this page. The links are below: Stage 1: Overview and desired results Stage 2a: Determine Acceptable Evidence Stage 2b: Assessment Task (Quality Teaching) Stage 3: The Learning Plan Stage 4a: Lesson Plan #1 This document inludes a lesson plan that integrates a learning object found on the learning federation website.
