My name is Amy Brooks. I am currently studying a double degree of Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and a Bachelor of Arts. My major is Digital Media and my minor is Visual Arts. I am in my second year and I will be completing my degree in 2011.

Why is eating healthy important?

 My integrated learning plan is based around the question, 'Why is eating healthy important?'. My unit is aimed at Receptions to year twos and covers the SACSA Key idea that Children begin to develop responsibility for their personal health. I selected this topic as I am currently observing and taking part in teaching the unit of health in my practicum with Receptions at Mitcham Primary. I chose to aim it at receptions to year 2 as it is relevant to me and my Early Childhood degree.

This unit allows students to inquire and develop a deeper understanding of how they can keep themselves healthy. Students will develop skills and learn practical strategies to help maintain their personal health and developing skills that enable them to plan for and include new healthy foods in their diet. Students will understand that eating choices can affect their long-term health and learn to use food group selection guides to consider the food they eat.
