The Inquiry Overview

This unit of work is looking at how the media influences our thinking. We aim to encourage students to think about where their information is coming from. Who owns the newspapers? Who runs the television networks? Is the government involved? Who deicides what we read and see? Should we take everything we see and hear at face value? This unit will require students to research the media and current hot topics to complete the unit. We want to arm students with the tools to be able to research effectively and critically analyse the media in all forms (newspaper, television, radio). By the end of this unit students should be able to make educated decisions about what they choose to believe by understanding how the media works.

We chose this topic because we felt this is an important skill for studnets to have, especially heading into a world that can be updated and deleted in a second.
